39th Annual General Meeting

The 39th Annual General Meeting of the Majlis was held on Saturday 27th June 2026 at the Gurney Bay Hotel, Penang, with 63 members in attendance.

Chairman Dato' Seri Choot Ewe Seng announced that the Tabung Derma Kebajikan Majlis Dato' Dato' Negeri Pulau Pinang has secured a 10-year extension of its tax exemption status, previously valid only until 31 December 2025.

The extension came with conditions to strengthen governance and independence. The Committee had already met all requirements except one: the inclusion of independent members from outside the Majlis on the Committee.

To fulfil this condition, the Committee shortlisted three public candidates and presented their credentials at the AGM which were formally appointed in this AGM for the ensuing year:

1. Dr. Azeem Fazwan bin Ahmad Farouk

2. Mr. Wong Chee Keet

3. Dr. Saravanabawa a/l M. Tharumasegaram

With the extension secured and the new appointments in place, the fund now meets all conditions attached to its tax exemption, reinforcing its transparency, independence, and accountability for donors and the wider community.

After the AGM, the Members of the Majlis were treated to a sumptuous buffet lunch.

The Majlis records its sincere appreciation to all Members who have supported the programs of the Majlis, to the Management Council Members for their dedication & hardwork in the smooth management of the Majlis and to the Secretariat for running the smooth running of the Majlis.
