Jalan Amal Mesra with T.Y.T. Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang at Bukit Bendera Kali Ke-2
For the 2nd time, The Majlis organised a charity walk up on Penang Hill for members, on Saturday, 9th March 2024 called the “Jalan Amal Mesra bersama T.Y.T. Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang.
The event was attended by about 150 participants comprising the Majlis’s members as well as some of their family members, and including officials from the State, etc.
Registration for participants started at 6.30am at the lower ground station began, after which participants were ushered into the train in batches through the fast lane of the station.
At 7.30 am, our Patron Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Bin Haji Abdul Razak, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang arrived, and Y.A.B. Chief Minister of Penang Tuan Chow Kon Yeow and the President of the Majlis, together with the Majlis Pengurusan members were on standby to receive His Excellency.
T.Y.T Tun was then escorted into the train, and together with Y.A.B. CM and the Majlis Pengurusan members, were taken up the hill with the morning breeze grazing the coach. Upon arrival at the hill top, all the participants had already gathered at the ‘Dataran’ waiting eagerly for the VVIPs to join them. They had earlier been given some light warm-up exercises such as body stretching and aerobic dance.
The Organising Chairman Dato’ Finn Choong then flagged off the walk and T.Y.T. Tun led the participants to walk from the designated route on Penang Hill & ‘The Habitat’ through to the ‘Curtis Crest Tree Top’ and the suspension bridge. The journey throughout covered almost 4.5 kilometres, ending at the “Bel-Retiro” bungalow, the T.Y.T. Tun’s official bungalow on top of Penang Hill. There was also a shorter route of 2.5 kilometres, for those participants who couldn’t manage a longer route.
A reception was held at the garden of the ‘Bel-Retiro’ bungalow whereby participants of the walk were treated to a sumptuous brunch which comprised among others; ‘nasi lemak’, ‘roti jala’, ‘ayam goreng berempah’, curry chicken, Malay kuih, fruits and hot as well as cold beverages.
After brunch, the highlight of the walk was the presentation of donations to three (3) charitable organizations. The Homes who were represented by their representatives, each received cheque from the donors, witnessed by T.Y.T. Tun. The recipient for the donations were The Little Sisters of the Poor, Ruyi Children’s Home and Rumah Permata Kasih.
The Majlis thanked the respective donors who came forward to donate to the charitable cause, namely Datuk Cha Hoo Peng, Dato’ Ooi Kok Wan and Ms. Dennise Teoh Pei Yi
The Majlis then presented Certificates of Appreciation to the following organizations for their support towards the successful organizing of the Charity Walk;
i. The Penang Hill Corporation
ii. The Habitat Penang Hill
iii. Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia Pulau Pinang
iv. NatureWalks at Penang Hill and
v. Residents’ Association of Penang Hill
Our patron T.Y.T Tun was kind enough to allow all participants of the walk who converged at his bungalow ‘The Bel-Retiro’, to tour the inside of the colonial building.
The President presented on behalf of the Majlis, a beautiful souvenir to our beloved T.Y.T. Tun which was a framed photographs of T.Y.T. Tun at the Jalan Amal last year.
